Percepción de los impactos del desarrollo turístico en Tulum, Quintana Roo

Resumen

Resumen El turismo en el estado de Quintana Roo ha impulsado el crecimiento económico pero también ha tenido secuelas importantes en los aspectos territoriales, ambientales y sociales, esta intensificación se ha focalizado en la zona norte del Estado, principalmente en Cancún y la Riviera Maya. Por ello, el propósito del artículo radica en un primer acercamiento sobre la percepción de los impactos que ha originado el desarrollo turístico en Tulum, Quintana Roo, México. Esta localidad se distingue del resto de los destinos la zona norte como el corredor Cancún-Riviera Maya, Cozumel e Isla Mujeres, dado que su mercado está vinculado a la búsqueda de experiencias alternativas, por lo que ha tenido crecimiento notable en la oferta de servicios para dicho sector de consumo, y ha derivado en la inmigración que se ha insertado en el sector laboral para atender las plazas de trabajo, así como para radicarse en la localidad. Se aplicaron 378 encuestas, para contar con un sondeo que permitiera obtener datos de primera mano para una posterior investigación, la aplicación del instrumento se realizó in situ, durante el verano de 2019. Entre los resultados destacan el impacto positivo en el ámbito económico, y de forma negativa en el medioambiental tras la destrucción de áreas de selva y deforestación para la construcción de infraestructura turística.

Abstract

Tourism in the state of Quintana Roo has driven economic growth but has also had important consequences in territorial, environmental and social aspects, this intensification has focused on the northern part of the state, mainly in Cancun and the Riviera Maya. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to have a first approach to the perception of the impacts that tourism development has caused in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This town is distinguished from the rest of the northern destinations such as the CancunRiviera Maya corridor, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres, given that its market is linked to the search for alternative experiences, which is why it has had notable growth in the offer of services for this consumer sector and has led to immigration that has been inserted into the labor sector to serve the jobs, as well as to settle in the locality. 378 surveys were applied to have a survey that  would allow obtaining first-hand data for further investigation, the application of the instrument was carried out in situ, during the summer of 2019. Among the results, the positive impact on the economic field, and the negative way on the environment after the destruction of forest areas and deforestation for the construction of tourist infrastructure.
